Playtech and The Hippodrome Casino are bringing live roulette, blackjack and baccarat from the Leicester Square venue to online casino operators in Great Britain. The launch tests whether a recognisable physical casino can give live-dealer content an edge over studio-based rivals.

Playtech announced the launch of Live from London on 15 September 2026. The portfolio includes Dual Roulette, Studio Core Roulette, Blackjack and Baccarat. The companies said more tables are expected as the partnership develops.

What has changed for Great Britain

The content is broadcast from inside The Hippodrome in London. It is not a new gambling licence or a separate legal category. It is a supplier and venue partnership that brings physical casino branding into remote casino content.

The Gambling Commission register showed active Casino Remote and Gambling Software Remote licences for Playtech Plc on 25 September 2026.

The register also showed active Casino Remote and Casino 1968 Act Non-Remote licences for Hippodrome Casino Limited. The company’s casino premises are recorded at 10 to 14 Cranbourn Street, London, under Westminster City Council.

Licensed operators remain responsible

Gambling Commission guidance says a business that provides remote gambling to consumers in Great Britain generally needs the relevant remote operating licence. A gambling software licence alone does not authorise a company to provide gambling facilities to players.

Playtech supplies the technology and game content, while the operator serving the player remains responsible for the licensed gambling service. That includes age and identity checks, account controls, customer protection measures and complaints handling.

Games supplied for regulated remote play must also meet the Gambling Commission’s technical requirements. Licence holders must submit game and random-number-generator test results before relevant products are released for play.

Why the venue matters

Live casino already uses real dealers, streamed tables and continuous online play. The London model adds a known physical venue to that format.

This indicates that the partnership has moved beyond a corporate announcement and into commercial distribution. Availability still depends on each operator’s product selection and licensing arrangements.

What the launch does not prove

The partnership does not show that venue-based streaming will improve player protection or reduce gambling harm. Those outcomes depend on how operators manage account risk, affordability checks, marketing, session controls and self-exclusion.

It also does not automatically extend to Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. The Gambling Commission licences cited here apply to Great Britain, which has a separate regulatory framework from those jurisdictions.

The immediate test is commercial. Playtech and The Hippodrome must show that the London setting gives operators a reason to carry the content. Licensed businesses must still meet Great Britain’s rules for remote gambling and software.
