Flutter’s tax overhaul puts up to 1,400 jobs in the balance
Flutter says higher UK gambling taxes are driving a restructuring. The potential cuts could equal roughly one in six UK and Ireland staff.
Flutter Entertainment says its UK and Ireland restructuring could cut up to 1,400 jobs, including roles in Leeds. The company announced the plan on 20 October, but the figure is a proposed maximum, not a confirmed number of redundancies. Staff consultation is still to come.
iGaming Business also reported the potential job cuts. Flutter says the changes could affect employees in:
- Leeds and Dublin
- Its UK and Ireland hubs in Porto, Portugal, and Cluj-Napoca, Romania
The company expects restructuring charges of $80 million to $90 million in the fourth quarter of 2026.
How the tax changes affect the business
Flutter says higher UK gambling taxes are behind the restructuring. HMRC guidance says Remote Gaming Duty increased from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026. It applies to providers’ profits from remote gaming with UK customers, not to customers’ betting stakes.
A separate 25% rate for remote betting is due to begin on 1 April 2027. The two changes have different start dates and apply to different forms of gambling.
What the maximum could mean
Flutter says about 9,000 people work in its UK and Ireland business. If all 1,400 proposed cuts went ahead, they would represent roughly one in six of that workforce. The final impact will depend on the consultation.
Flutter says it plans to maintain investment in its customer offering, but has not confirmed how many roles will go.
