Great Britain won two world titles within 20 minutes at the UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai on Thursday, 15 October 2026. The women’s team pursuit quartet reclaimed gold before Matthew Bostock attacked alone to win the men’s scratch race, Cycling Weekly reported.

One victory came from a perfectly coordinated team. The other came from a late solo move that held off the field.

A golden return for the women

The women’s team pursuit is a 4-kilometre race. Riders work together to set the fastest time.

Great Britain won the final in 4:04.610, beating Italy by more than five seconds, according to Cycling Weekly.

Erin Boothman, Anna Morris, Millie Couzens and Josie Knight rode the final. Megan Barker also received a gold medal after competing in the semi-final. Cyclingnews reported that the result restored Britain’s title after Italy won in 2025.

Great Britain has now won the women’s team pursuit world title nine times since the event entered the Track World Championships programme in 2008. That is the most titles by any nation in the discipline.

Bostock attacks alone

Matthew Bostock followed the team pursuit victory in the 40-lap scratch race. A breakaway had already formed when the rider from the Isle of Man made his move.

He caught Switzerland’s Alex Vogel with about 10 laps remaining. Bostock then stayed clear of the chasing bunch, Cycling Weekly reported.

New Zealand’s Tom Sexton finished second. Belgium’s Lindsay De Vylder took bronze. The win gave Bostock his first senior world title and Great Britain’s first rainbow jersey of the championships.

What the second day delivered

The double gave Britain two very different routes to the top. The women’s title depended on four riders maintaining speed and precision. Bostock’s victory depended on timing his attack and surviving the final chase.

Great Britain also won bronze in the men’s team pursuit on 15 October. Its riders collected three medals on the second day.

  • Two gold medals within 20 minutes
  • One bronze medal in the men’s team pursuit
  • Three British medals on 15 October
  • Four riders in the women’s final

The championships run at the Shanghai Velodrome from 14 to 18 October 2026. The UCI listed the endurance events among the competitions placing the riders under pressure throughout the championships.
